Developmental House Rules

All games will follow National Federation of High School (NFHS) Rules with the following exceptions:  

 2nd Grade Developmental

  1. Rim Height:  8'6"
  2. Free Throw Line:  Not Applicable
  3. Ball Size: 27.5"
  4. Game Type:  3v3, half court games, no officials
  5. Length of Quarters:  10 minute running clock
  6. Time Outs:  Only for Injury; otherwise, running clock
  7. Defensive Restrictions:
    1. Man-Man Only
    2. No stealing
    3. No Double Teaming
  8. Offensive Restrictions:
    1.   All inbounds are taken at top of key
    2.   Isolation Plays are prohibited
  9. Substitutions:  Subs halfway through period
  10. Overtime:  No overtime periods

3rd Grade Developmental

  1. Rim Height:  9'0"
  2. Free Throw Line:  13' Relaxed
  3. Ball Size: 28.5"
  4. Game Type:  5v5, Full Court Games
  5. Length of Quarters:  6 minute standard clock
  6. Time Outs:  3 full timeouts per game
  7. Defensive Restrictions:
    1. Man-Man Only
    2. No reach-in steals when player is in possession of the ball and/or dribbling.  Players are permitted to steal a pass and are permitted to reach-in steals if the offensive player with the ball is in the lane.  
    3. No Double Teaming except when inside of the lane
    4. No full court press is permitted
  8. Offensive Restrictions:
    1.   All inbounds are taken at top of key
    2.   Isolation Plays are prohibited
  9. Substitutions:  Substitutions are allowed at the quarter break and at a stoppage closest to the halfway mark of each quarter. Coaches are NOT allowed on the court; no “line ups” will be allowed for substitutions. Players check in at scorer’s table
  10. Overtime: No overtime period
  11. Halftime Shooting Contest:  Teams line up at each free throw line. Each player shoots once and it counts towards game score. If one team has fewer players, last round pick shoot again; then second to last round pick, etc. as needed. Concept is to provide opportunity for players who do not score very much.
