SOLO Hoops is once again excited to offer our offseason travel program to our basketball community. Our goal this season is to create a more flexible schedule to accommodate spring sports and offer a more convenient tournament schedule. We also plan to incorporate basketball skills training each week by high school coaches from Freedom HS and John Champe HS.
Players who are interested in the Spring OR Summer programs must attend one of the February tryouts. There WILL NOT be a separate tryout for the Summer program. Players must attend at least one tryout to be considered for the spring Program.
This program is open to kids in grades 4-8 based on the current school year enrollment.
Here’s how it’s going to work
Skills training will occur on Mondays and Tuesdays. Players will choose between one of the two nights to participate. Practices will occur on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Again, players choose the best night that works for their schedule. Our plan is to standardize the X’s and O’s in the spring program across all levels. All teams will run simple, easy to understand offense and defense. Practices will consist of players from the same and different teams based on availability. These practices aren’t the conventional team practices we’re all accustomed to but will still be supervised by SOLO coaches.
We are also partnering with Slam City Basketball and will participate in their spring tournaments. This is easy and convenient for most families and our partnership reduces the overall cost for our spring players. Coaches will also have the flexibility to play in additional tournaments (at an additional cost) based on feedback from parents and players. For example, if there’s a weekend when there’s no Slam City event, coaches may choose to schedule a tournament in Loudoun, Fairfax or elsewhere.
The spring season will run from mid-March through early June.
- Individual training will be offered on Mondays and Tuesdays at Mercer MS
- Team practices will be held Wednesday’s and Thursdays at Mercer MS
- Fridays will be reserved for open gyms or makeup sessions.
Training, practices and open gyms may move to different locations and will be posted weekly on our scheduling site.
Fees - Cost for the spring season will be $200 per player. This fee includes all costs associated with training, practice space, tournaments, PRCS fees, etc.
Registration - SOLO Hoops will require advance registration for the offseason travel team tryouts. Pre-Registration will open in January.
Rosters – Teams will consist of roughly 12 players. Normal roster size is 10 for the winter season but extra players are kept during the spring to accommodate for spring sports conflicts. We also realize that players will miss training sessions, practices and tournament games due to conflicts. As an offseason program we know other events may take priority at times.
Uniforms – Players who did not participate in the 2018-2019 winter travel program will need to purchase uniforms. This cost is an added $75 per player.
